Kids who want a unique lunchbox to carry to school are in luck, if their parents are feeling generous – and charitable.

More than 150 celebrities have decorated lunchboxes for charity to benefit two hunger relief organizations.

The lunchboxes, designed by luminaries in the entertainment, fashion, art, music, literary and culinary worlds – were to be sold in an online auction beginning at 12:01 a.m EST Friday and ending at midnight Dec. 21.

Elton John designed a white lunchbox covered in colourful images of trolls. Eva Mendes offered a psychedelic creation. Julia Stiles did one that shows a photo of the Brooklyn Bridge on one side and of trees on the other. Kevin Smith sketched Bullwinkle on his.

Other celebrities who contributed designs included Michael Stipe, Richie Rich, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Lisa Marie Presley and Beyonce.

The auction, which hopes to raise upward of $200,000, will benefit Food Bank for New York City, which feeds 1.3 million New Yorkers annually, and The Lunchbox Fund, which provides lunch to impoverished schoolchildren in South Africa.

The Lunchbox Fund says 25 cents fills one child’s lunchbox.

Kicking off the event Thursday night was a star-studded live auction featuring several of the personalized boxes at the Saatchi & Saatchi advertising agency.
